LastPass Password Manager: Paywall limits account to a single device
Users are frustrated by the recent policy change that restricts free accounts to a single device type, effectively removing a feature that was previously available without cost. This shift is perceived as a greedy, extortionate move that renders the product useless for long-term loyal customers who are now seeking alternatives.
6 different people have complained about this since 28 Mar 2021, most recently on 21 Jun 2021.
No new posts for 2.0k days. This may have been fixed, or people stopped writing about it — the evidence below is from before 21 Jun 2021.
- “LastPass Password Manager — Turned to garbage.”
- “Switching to only be useable on one device after loyal use of years makes this product completely useless to me.”
- “Now the greed of more revenue has taken over and now they are changing and going to start charging users for a PW Manager that has been great for years and pushing users to change and find an alternative program that’s…”

…requiring users to have 1 device at a time is a show stopper for me. Premium is too expensive. Removing it from my device
Too expensiveLastPass Password Manager — Turned to garbage How can this app possibly justify locking usage to one device type? If I set it to PC and need access to an account while I’m out, I’m just SOL? Worst possible change they could have made, will migrate off and leave this trash in the past
LastPass Password Manager — Super disappointed in the change. Switching to only be useable on one device after loyal use of years makes this product completely useless to me. It’s a cash grab and it’s shady. Don’t bother with this app there are way better products out there.
…ing LastPass for over 12 years on all my devices and it worked great. Now the greed of more revenue has taken over and now they are changing and going to start charging users for a PW Manager that has been great for years and pushing users to change and find an alternative program that’s not looking to scam all of its…
LastPass Password Manager — Will try to trap you and extort you. The change to only allow one device is a scam, extorting you for a feature that was readily available beforehand. I loved this app before but I’ve lost all respect with this new update. Will be taking my business elsewhere

Questions about this idea
- Is Paywall limits account to a single device a startup idea?
- Not directly. These are complaints about a product or service people already use, and the fix belongs first to that provider. The page shows what is frustrating users and how badly — not an open market to start a company in.
- How many people have this problem?
- 6 different people described it independently, in 6 mentions, the earliest from 28 Mar 2021 and the most recent from 21 Jun 2021. The quotes, with dates and links to the originals, are in the Evidence section.
- Is this problem getting worse?
- Status: quiet — no new posts in the last 60 days. 0 people raised it in the last 30 days and 0 in the 30 days before; the status compares its share of everything collected from the same source, so collecting more or less cannot create a trend.
