LastPass Password Manager: Paywall limits account to a single device
Users are frustrated by recent policy changes that restrict essential syncing features and limit free accounts to a single device type unless they upgrade to a paid premium plan. This sudden monetization strategy has rendered the free version effectively useless and alienated long-term customers.
6 different people have complained about this since 23 Feb 2021, most recently on 19 Mar 2021.
No new posts for 2.1k days. This may have been fixed, or people stopped writing about it — the evidence below is from before 19 Mar 2021.

…ur passwords on all your devices, rendering the free version useless. All of a sudden, they basically held passwords for ransom unless we pay for premium. Is that not the very thing password managers are meant to protect us from? Try Bitwarden or Zoho instead. Don’t support a company with such scummy practices.
Would pay…ium version. Literally every other password manager has this feature. This is a terrible way to say thank you to your users by removing an essential feature. This makes the app no longer free.
…ord Manager — They destroyed their app with the new terms of service After using LastPass for several years they now changed their service to only work on 1 type of device making it useless. Don’t waste your time theirs plenty of free alternatives like bitwarden.

I used to recommend LastPass to all my friends and family but will no longer do so. I personally…

Questions about this idea
- Is Paywall limits account to a single device a startup idea?
- Not directly. These are complaints about a product or service people already use, and the fix belongs first to that provider. The page shows what is frustrating users and how badly — not an open market to start a company in.
- How many people have this problem?
- 6 different people described it independently, in 6 mentions, the earliest from 23 Feb 2021 and the most recent from 19 Mar 2021. The quotes, with dates and links to the originals, are in the Evidence section.
- Is this problem getting worse?
- Status: quiet — no new posts in the last 60 days. 0 people raised it in the last 30 days and 0 in the 30 days before; the status compares its share of everything collected from the same source, so collecting more or less cannot create a trend.
