App crashing

Tried to attach photos to a group chat. Now everytime i even try to read the chat it crashes.

I use Google Chat constantly for both business operations and personal communication. While my hardware works perfectly across all other workflows, recent app updates have introduced a catastrophic regression on iOS 17-16 +. The app completely freezes—disabling all touch features, gestures, and scrolling. The lockup is so severe that it requires forcing the app closed or powering off the device entirely to recover. Key Issues Experienced: • Total UI Freeze / Touch Failure: The app completely stops responding to touch input or scrolling, forcing a manual app restart or device power-cycle. • Frequent Crashes: The application unexpectedly terminates mid-conversation or when pulling up background states. • Disrupted Workflows: These freezes cause immediate delays in client communication and disrupt day-to-day business operations. Impact & Business Justification: Forcing a hardware upgrade cycle solely to sustain basic messaging functionality is not viable when the device itself functions flawlessly. I strongly urge the engineering team to deploy a stability patch or establish a stable Long-Term Support (LTS) branch for iOS 16+ users to preserve accessibility for dual-use environments. Thank you for addressing this critical stability issue.

Please put back save as image/to photos option

Please put back save as image/to photos option on iOS Only save to files available now - so to add something to photos app must do extra step of moving from files to photos first

Laggy af

Been using the app for about a year, i have noticed in that year that after 20-40 minutes the app becomes super laggy, forcing me back to another platform to finish chats, this needs to be fixed

WAY too much CPU use on iOS

This app uses an extraordinary amount of background CPU on iOS, causing battery drain and the phone to become hot. Please fix this asap. It's been an issue for a long time. I can only use the app in a pinch, then promptly delete until needed again.

Bugs

One star for the app badge that won’t go away until you delete the app and put it back again. This is the 2nd time I’ve deleted the app, and I’m sure I’ll be doing it again. Thanks Google. Edit: why did you post a link to Android app support for the Google Play store?

I literally deleted it off of my home screen and now I can’t get it back fix that so then I don’t have to pay for the thing and I can actually talk to people

Current winner of worst app ever

I have downloaded this app because my daughter’s school is using it for a trip - apparently the school won’t let them use WhatsApp because they can’t hide their phone number from other students. Anyway, I have never had the misfortune to use a less intuitive app. Almost impossible to find invitations to groups (known as spaces 😳) - apparently you have to tap new chat, then browse spaces to find them!! I’ve had to google so much to find out how to use google chat!!!!!

I usually love this app yet something has changed and now it won’t open. I’ve downloaded it multiple times and gone through all the security checks and still it won’t open.

Photo Uploads Are Very Unstable on iPhone

Google Chat works very poorly on iPhone when uploading photos. Uploading multiple photos often causes the app to freeze, lag, or fail to upload them. Sometimes this happens even with just a few photos. I use the app for work and regularly need to send multiple job-site photos, so this makes it very difficult to use. Please improve photo upload stability and overall iPhone performance.

THE ICON IS HORRIBLE.

What the actual hell is this icon man?? The old one was COMPLETELY fine. It looks like yall just asked AI to make a new one. The smile for no reason? The weird graident? Why is it green??? Listen to your customers and change it back, NO ONE wanted this. Edit: Also why does it keep crashing and making my messages not load for no reason 😭? My wifi and internet is fine The only way to fix this is deleting the app and redownloading..

Deceptive app

Do not download or use this app. They are deceptive and do not provide transparency regarding their fees. This used to be a free app and now I can’t get on it without having to enter financial credentials and I refuse to do it. There are many other platforms out there that are free. Google is stupid if they think that they can deceptively charge people for using their service without they’re in for. Shame on you.

App still has obvious bugs and glitches after years of reporting them to you. Billion dollar company

I'm tired, boss. Tired of telling you the same thing over and over. When someone quote replies a message on your app, if it's 10+ messages above, the app will not redirect you to that message, when you tap on the quoted message, instead the screen goes completely blank or "message cannot be found". The playback bar on voice messages doesn't work properly.

The worst app

Google Chat is evil and there are scammers and people you don’t know. Some of the people I know are too obsessive. Watch who you chat with! Don’t trust online friends through this app.

Awful app

What more can I say, compared to hangouts this app is awful. Crashes all the time, fails to send pictures and videos. Would give it 0 stars if I could

Persistent battery issues

I love the app and have been using it for years. However, it’s absolutely killing my battery on the latest iOS versions. I found that by deleting and reinstalling, it’s again fine for some amount of time, but when I notice my phone running very hot doing nothing and check back again… I see that it’s constantly running while backgrounded. Rinse and repeated for multiple iterations. I’ve never had this issue with the other mobile platform, and it has been occurring here for me for months. Any suggestions to help would be appreciated, and I’ll happily revise my review if this is resolved.

Notifications is buggy

Frequently not getting the notifications badges. I won’t know that I’ve been messaged. Comes and goes. And I shouldn’t have continuously toggle settings and clear cache to get it working. In addition, I wouldn’t even know that it’s not working until I realize I’ve missed messages from friends. Terrible.

Constantly Crashes

For my work group chart we swapped from WhatsApp to Google Chat. I often have to send many images at once and on WhatsApp I could send 30 at once with no trouble and it would go through instantly.On google chat the app crashes if I try to send more then 10, and then I can’t even open the chat anymore as it will instantly crash and I have to delete and redownload the app.

Webp ruining images

July 14th: Received 0 help from support. Fix this bug. The desktop version still sends pngs properly, but some of us work from android or ios. Don't just tell me 'submit feedback via the feedback button' either. That's not dev support, that's passing the buck. --- All of a sudden, all pngs sent through Gchat are being turned into artifacted webp's. It ruins the quality of images and we don't know if or how to turn it back off. Please change this back, it's now impossible to send pngs without a ton of loss of quality.

Notifications don’t come through

Horrible app, and horrible notification process across Mac ecosystem of devices. All my notifications are on and set to persistent across devices in both chat settings and iOS settings. And yet, the dumb thing arbitrarily doesn’t send me messages unless I actively open the app and let it load. When my Mac is open, things are even less predictable. Sometimes notifications come through on my Mac/iPhone and sometimes I miss messages all together. As a business owner who just switched to the google workspace ecosystem I’m very disappointed and am shocked this hasn’t been fixed.

Please fix photos

Everyone that I know including myself has had issues with photos not sending. Whether I have WiFi or not doesn’t make a difference it takes me at lease 6 or 7 times to get one picture to send and it it getting ridiculous. Please fix this issue.

No audio at all during a critical meeting

I joined a meeting and no audio at all. I tried switch to phone/speaker/airpods, they don’t work either. I finally reach to my PC and then I can speak and listen. I thought googlers with strong AI and 250k salary can at least do a fantastic job on a chat app. I think I was wrong…. updates：how can I invite another people during the meeting? I cannot find such UI to invite another people that was not invited. Multiple 250K programmers cannot even do a meeting app. That’s why you make less than AI contributors another update： If I push the power button on my IPhone, then the APP will crash and I exit the meeting. Good job 250K!

Browsing for photos to add to a chat is always a nightmare. I don't want to default view my Google photo albums when adding a photo. default take me to the picture albums on my device (phone). browsing for photos to add to a chat is a dumpster fire. 99% of the time, I get annoyed and have to exit the app, go to my phone gallery, and share via Google Chat from there. terribly designed. I hate it so much.

Seriously?

This is the only chat I use to communicate with freinds and it’s disapointing. I can never load links or anything. And when I need it the most, it never, like never works. I always haven to call them. It says “ Try again” it “ loads” but never stops. I can message them and I’m so unhappy. Please, Please, PLEASE fix this. If it wasen’t called GOOGLE chat I wouldn’t belive it’s from google.

Constant crashing

I use google chat for work. We have to send before and after photos of our side work. When I try to upload 10 photos or more, they will fail to send and crash the app. The problem isn’t the first crash, it’s that every time I try to open my work chat, the app will crash. This chat is vital for my communication for work. I am unable to message the chat, not only my before and afters, but any questions, heads ups, or shift swaps that I would love to do. Please fix this. It’s been happening for over a year and I have to delete the app and redownload it every time this happens.

Poor file handling capabilities

It could be a rather compelling app for messaging but it is affected by developers’ sloppiness. Why on earth doesn’t the app register itself for all file types in share tab (hence, you cannot selected it when sharing a file from File app)?? This and the whole to-be or not-to-be in Gmail situation is the reason why I considerably reduce the scoring. Fix the file and I’ll immediately review.

Worst texting app ever

Every time I try logging in to google chat it would automatically say we could not find you information about you.

No Privacy, Horrible UX

Is there any data that Google isn’t stealing with this app? The data privacy policy is ridiculous. And the UX is one of the worst, most unintuitive experiences I’ve ever seen for a chat application.
