Laggy and Disorganized

Slack has been the most awful program to use. Purchases within the app need to be done on a separate browser, the app fails to load and threads are confusing. I am 25 and use cooking tech every day, and this is on the bottom of my list.

Horrible

Very flaky and it’s authentication is the horrible, search is substandard. Hate it as we are forced to use it.

Notifications? Who needs em.

Honestly no matter how many times I update my notifications settings I don’t get half the notifications. It’s absolutely annoying. The overall app works okay.

Notification issues

No notifications come through on mobile whatsoever, settings are limited and I can’t change much to do with it. Overall the app is actually great but missing notifications when important deadlines need to be met is causing me a lot of problems.

Terrible

You really can’t have the thread go to the last message decades into the tech?

Pointless change to the team switcher UI and also now it’s broken

Why? Switching teams on iOS is much harder now, and half the time actually tapping the current team doesn’t bring up the team selector at all, requiring a forced restart

Replys are horrible

Reply’s system sucks Too small and barely noticeable. Doesn’t bring the msg you’re replying to to the bottom of the chat

Spellcheck

Beyond the challenges with finding information and search fundamentally the way spellcheck is built does not work properly leading to frustration.

Horrible most difficult platform ever

I have used slack for multiple “workspaces” (?!) over several years. SLACK IS HORRIBLE. All of it is their “JARGON” what is a workspace? My JOB? And CHANNELS!? Oh did u use the right CHANNEL?? Why are they on TV!!!?? None of their stuff works correct unless you ask your JOB oh sorry workplace for the invite EVERY MONTH OR SO. And if you have a few gigs that use it at the same time?? FORGET IT THEY CANNOT WORK WELL TOGETHET, and slack cannot help. Everything is an endless loop back to customer service and or to push you to pay for an account!!! Pay for what!!??? Just a “CHAT”?!!!!!! My offices use???? They already charge the company for an enterprise account!!!!! Nickel and diming customers, zero support that is helpful!!! And I have had them for YEARS!!! NOW U WANT TO SEND ME A REVIEW REQUEST!!?? SURE HERE YOU GO I CANT STAND THEM. THEIR NOTIFICATION SETTINGS ARE ATROCIOUS ALSO. And they can’t purge old accounts!!!! So it will send me and email that’s blank saying I have a notification YET THAT WORKSPACE HAS BEEN GONE FOR YEARS

Issue

A lot of issues when bringing up certain things they don’t bring them up in order unless you put that you want newest. And it still does not bring the newest information to the top.

Bad changes

Slack was best when I first started using it in 2021. Since then, every update has made it worse. My current frustration is that “reminder” alerts are now impossible to find!

Overpriced service, unwanted features

Slack used to be great but post Salesforce acquisition they are speed running the ruining of the product. It nags and tries to force unwanted features on you at the same time as they’re massively increasing the cost to use the service.

Mostly works well, but less than it should

Slack has all the features I need in a chat, and mostly they work. But sometimes they just don’t! Perhaps Slack decides not to show new messages on iOS for a day, while desktop is fine. Or perhaps three hours is missing and nothing I try brings back those forlorn forgone hours. I don’t want any more features. I don’t want any AI tools. I want work on all that new stuff to stop so that developers can spend time making the important feature of Slack—sending and receiving messages—work perfectly.

Profile Photo

Can’t load a profile photo for anything I’m worth. The app doesn’t acknowledge the failed attempt(s) so then also does not offer any instruction, guidance, error code for follow up.

Garbage

Never lets me send messages for work which is what it is for

Not very responsive + annoying DMs when someone new joins

It’s generally ok but the notification bubbles on the app icon on my phone’s main screen dont disappear responsively after I clicked through all the notifications. The DM whenever someone joins the workspace is quite annoying and there is no way to disable it.

More access

Great app for communicating with peers in company but it lacks a lot of freemdpm to do things pretty much everything is locked in the paid version

paywall and gifs suck

there are features like the canvases and workflows that i think should not be locked behind a pay wall, and the gifs don’t move on the mobile app.

Ok but not revolutionary

Slack works ok but I can’t get my desktop notifications to work. And I wish it integrated with our other programs more effectively

Are you making this worse on purpose?

Used to be decent but they seem to have gone out of their way to make it worse lately. Previews pasted from a lot of sites are useless now, forcing you to click through to see the image or post. Do you ever even use this stuff yourselves?

Not user friendly

Navigation is painful. They have forgotten what seamless means. Ooh and hire someone who knows search

Vibe Coding Gone Wild

Are they even thinking about what they are shipping? Or are just robots taking the wheel and deciding everything that gets built? The recent update annihilated my Saved section and dumped all of my items with a hundred other "Todos" that are from months ago without any purpose. Who approves these changes? Who wants these changes? In a world where anyone can vibe code a Slack clone, why is Slack vibe coding their own app??

Their message-deletion period on the free tier sucks!

I was out of the country for a bit and returned to find that several critical company threads and decisions had completely vanished. For small teams or anyone taking extended leave, losing context this quickly is a major drawback. Be cautious if you rely on the free version for important history.

Notifications

Im always missing notifications because of this app . Its always making me go on sleep mode however many times I change it , and then I miss important notifications

Too much

Way too cluttered. Search functionality is awful. Time suck with diminishing returns.

Love slack… BUT.. Agentic features and navigation in IOS could use some work

I really wish Slack would bring your pinned agents like you have on the desktop. readily available on the home screen in iOS. Also, what is up with prompt links not working on iOS? It’s been over a year

Outdated Anti-Productive Workspace

Never has my organization been as unproductive as post-Slack migration. Unintuitive sorting systems, messages getting hidden, no “home” page that shows all messages in chronological order. This interface that hasn’t been updated in 10+ years.

Awful app for important groups

Awful set up. Notifications are turned on, on my phone but the app still wouldn’t notify me. I tried everything and found out I wasn’t the only one with this issue. Thankfully we left this app and went to another app.

Get rid of the AI garbage. It’s annoying and useless.

Missing chats.

The app needs to keep all chats in the list. Too many chats are just vanishing from lists and you can't get valuable info because the chat has been removed from the list.

Review

It says that slack will keep messages up to 2 years but after a few months a chat is not found and deleted. A lot of companies false advertise just like this one. It is a useful communication tool and has a lot of features but does not uphold everything it says it should be doing

Fix your update

Since you're update 4 hours ago, my app just crashes. Good update :(

Slack is overrated and overpriced

First of all, your company already pays for Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace. The cost of those licenses which include email, calendar, and enerything an employee needs for work also includes their more than functional chat services. Did I mention that Slack charges about the same monthly per employee for JUST collaboration? Love how Slack works? Get yourself Mattermost’s community edition and self host it for FREE, literally saving your company thousands of dollars per month you’re throwing away on Slack.

Has stopped improving a decade ago

Slack UX has been steadily getting worse. There is feature bloat, and no improvement to the core interactions. Things like replies are near unusable. The desktop client won’t let me simply sort convos by recent. Now they try to trick people into letting Slack train on their conversations. Garbage all around.
