“Is there no process to vote-in rules on reddit? It's all about what one man believes and feels how the world should work apparently.”

“Am I supposed to pretend like banning AI isn't incredibly based? If I was running a forum that was getting spammed by slop daily, I'd probably do the same.”

“Whoa. I had no idea this got so big. I’m subscribed to that subreddit and have been watching it unravel. A moderate ban on AI isn’t a bad idea but the criteria on this ban is way too broad and prohibits sharing of smaller open source projects.”

“I’m in favour of a soft ban: if it looks like slop, its slop.”

“KI-Verbot bei r/opensource: Wer prüft eigentlich den Code? r/opensource und r/fossdroid sperren KI-gestützte Projekte aus, während der Linux-Kernel die vorher obligatorische Kennzeichnung von KI-Code streicht. #Kernel #KI #Kommentar #OpenSource”
  • user·228e· Bluesky· 26 Oct 2026 · 2 likesoriginal ↗
“Irgendwie katapultiert diese Anti-AI-Truppe sich zunehmend selbst ins Aus: Mittlerweile gibt es auch im Linux-Kernel KI-Code und jetzt darf man anscheinend in /r/opensource nicht mehr über Linux reden. Das ist einfach hart absurd […]”

“The "No school Projects" rule pisses me off especially, since I'm a college student. It's such an arbitrary barrier that does not in any way determine if a project is good or not. THE GODDAMN LINUX KERNEL WAS A SCHOOL PROJECT!”
  • user·6946· YouTube· 27 Oct 2026 · 7 likesoriginal ↗
“project age and contributors requirement seems entirely reasonable to me tbh”

“> have multiple contributors (subjectively 3+) Bruh... What if I want to post there to solicit potentially interested co-developers to begin with? This went far beyond just an anti-AI measure. This is straight-up elitist gatekeeping.”

Communities should fork instead of banning

“I’m neutral on whether they “should” ban it, but a question that has so much passion on both sides, it seems like it’s better for everyone to just “fork” so to speak and make a second subreddit for “like r/opensource, but AI-positive.” Everybody gets the subset(s) of content they want. If it “kills” one or the other subreddits that means it turns out most people don’t want that rule. But that’s fine.”
