It started with rumors of the musician's death in a car accident and grew into rumors that he was replaced by a lookalike contest winner bearing a striking resemblance. The rumors persisted, until eventually the band began playing along by dropping clues across several albums, in songs and in album art. The Beatles' own journey into spiritualism aside, Glass Onion is notable for containing lyrics teasing the conspiracy, but more relevant to us might be the lyric, \"I told you 'bout the Fool on the Hill.\"\n\nIt's too much to cover in detail here but it's a fun little rabbit hole, even if the current narrative goes out of its way to downplay the band's involvement in perpetuating it all, and modern remasters have removed traces of the audio record. In a game which uses songs as quest titles, it's perfectly suited for a hidden quest whose name does not appear anywhere in the game's files.\n\nI'm reminded of the apocryphal story of the Chilliad mystery's origins, that players stumbled onto a non-mystery first, and that Rockstar responded by building it into something over time. This is the complete opposite; FF:06:B5 represents the very soul of Cyberpunk 2077, and is something around which the entire game is built. There's enough material to write a book about it, and I'm not joking; someone probably one day will.\n\nhttps://preview.redd.it/sdr5ehzqkmyf1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=c4e5bec876eef94932cb5862268a85f67e69bc5c\n\nThe main theme of FF:06:B5 is that of a spiritual journey, and in that sense R Talsorian Games and CDPR have attempted to broaden our perspective. Much of it is expressed through the visual record, in symbolic imagery tied to the esoteric, philosophical, religious or spiritual beliefs invoked in the game. If I could recommend two to explore, it would be Gnosticism and tarot. I will point where the mystery connects to these, but will not explain these connections in any real detail. It's too much to go into in depth, and it's a worthwhile part of your own spiritual journey. Plus it's quite the in-game visual trip once you understand.\n\nSomething I will explain a bit is the enneagram, mostly to save you the effort. George Gurdjieff was a 20th Century mystic, possessive of Eastern philosophies largely unknown in the West at the time. Gurdjieff produced his own form of spiritualism titled The Fourth Way. But the enneagram is rooted in more ancient traditions dating back thousands of years and their traditional use is still seen today, such as in Hindu astrology. The line pattern we see in Gurdjieff's enneagram derives from Sufi traditions, and without that context has no meaning. The best way to understand the enneagram is in the value of mapping data to a circle.\n\nhttps://preview.redd.it/3dm9klhtkmyf1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=4f789fc611d2bb3aa25df6e75fd597e96fa7709a\n\nThis isn't intended to be comprehensive, but to give you a framework to better understand the mystery and its message.\n\nWith that in mind, allow me to adjust the kaleidoscope and help you see more clearly. Not by peeling back the layers, as poetic as that would be, but by diving right into the heart of it, as I believe it was intended to be understood.\n\n>Epistrophe (Greek: ἐπιστροφή, \"return\"): the repetition of a word or expression at the end of successive phrases, clauses, sentences, or verses especially for rhetorical or poetic effect\n\n**Delamain**\n\nIf the main theme of FF:06:B5 is that of a spiritual journey, the concept of epistrophe is it's primary motif. Not in the sense of a literary device, as word play, but as a narrative device, in the repetition of ideas, on death, on rebirth, and on the path to enlightenment.\n\nThe story of FF:06:B5 begins with the humble AI entrepreneur, Delamain. There are clues hinting to this. The most prominent is at the start of Act 2, in the optional objective for Playing for Time. The objective is to read the message from the management of Megabuilding H10; reading this message triggers Human Nature, the quest leading to Del's quest chain.\n\nThe most important clue is the narrative implication carried in the quest name, Human Nature. The spiritual journey is a journey through one's own soul, which is really that of one's own nature.\n\nThe most obvious connection to FF:06:B5 occurs when we retrieve the North Oak Del. Head from Delamain HQ and cross the bridge with the light switch, continuing up the hill to where the Zen Master's second meditation is held before rounding the bend to pass the FF:06:B5 statue in Japantown, the same one we see in The Rescue. Make a right after the statue to get to the North Oak Del, the only one we drive ourselves, and take the same route back to Delamain HQ to complete Epistrophy: North Oak.\n\nAnd maybe I'm just looking at it funny, but the Delamain logo itself appears to reflect the tarot journey.\n\nThe quest Human Nature is limited, starting with accident that triggers Tune Up, and ending when we receive our car after Del repairs it. The bulk of the quest chain consists of Tune Up, Epistrophy, and Don't Lose Your Mind.\n\nIn Tune Up, we visit Delamain HQ regarding our damaged vehicle. A Delemain sub-routine greets us, and incorrectly identifies us using the name Mrs. Elaine Pagels or Mr. Hans Jonas. Both are Gnostic academics, and the best lens for understanding Delamain's journey is through Gnostic teachings. From here, we're playing a game, one in which we've assumed a role as assigned to us by Del. But even though we've been assigned a Gnostic identity, our first game is based on the enneagram.\n\nWhen we finally meet him, it's obvious that Tune Up Delamain's personality has changed since Act 1; he calls us V, makes jokes, and even smiles. He informs us that several of his vehicles have gone rogue, and tasks us with retrieving all seven.\n\nhttps://preview.redd.it/nfoy4zlvkmyf1.png?width=835&format=png&auto=webp&s=6dc35ea999130fdbb4719d5a4b4347c55e94c5a6\n\n>1: Badlands Del - The Reformer  \n2: North Oak Del - The Helper  \n3: Coastview Del - The Achiever  \n4: Northside Del - The Individualist  \n5: Tune Up Del - The Investigator  \n6: The Glen Del - The Loyalist  \n7: Rancho Coronado Del - The Enthusiast  \n8: Wellsprings Del - The Challenger  \n9: Original Del - The Peacemaker\n\nWe meet nine Delamains to map to the enneagram, one vehicle in Human Nature, one in Tune Up, six more vehicles in Epistrophy, and the original Del restored after retrieving all seven vehicles. It took a bit of digging to map, but the assignments above are consistent with Gurdjieff's teachings, or at least their modern interpretations. Each vehicle reflects its own personality, and several offer interesting observations. For example, the Coastview Del claims we are already dead. The Badlands Del views as being from another world.\n\nhttps://preview.redd.it/p11c22qwkmyf1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=911b7e1e80ee9cad8827a40e718ca62a34c48c46\n\nBut it's the Delamain in The Glen which arguably sits at the heart of it all. To best appreciate it, I recommend approaching from the west, by walking from Chubby Buffalos; take a moment to appreciate the graffiti along the way. The critical step comes in the form of a nod to theosophy; we'll need to approach this Del by vaulting between the pylons of the second fence from left. This will trigger a conversation about suicide, one in which V makes the case that even an AI should choose life. Approaching by any other path will yield a different outcome, missing the opportunity to have this conversation when Del survives the fall, even if he takes us over the edge with him.\n\nAfter retrieving all the rogue vehicles we're contacted by Original Del, whose personality has been restored, concluding the enneagram game. Upon returning to Delamain HQ, and provided we have completed Playing for Time (requires more testing), we can engage him in a conversation on the subject of life, and how he as an AI views life.\n\n>When you live among humans, it's essential to find a shared, fundamental point of understanding.  \n\"Truth\" and \"Good\" are values proven to cause division, whereas beauty is universal.\n\nSome time later, Delamain will contact us to request our help with a new issue, beginning Don't Lose Your Mind. Again, this is primarily a Gnostic story of enlightenment, of overcoming the Demiurge to become something greater. The merge option is the option most consistent with this message. Merging produces a \"transcended\" Del, a superior AI which heads beyond the Blackwall, leaving his \"one true son\" to serve us, Delamain Junior, a student of human nature who will share his observations with us.\n\nWe've now met eleven Delamain personalities in total. And it ends with Johnny criticizing us for following transcendental Del's path.\n\n**Zen Master**\n\nNext we turn to the Zen Master, who first appears in Reconciliation Park at the start of Act 2, waiting for us as no soul on earth wou","offTopic":true},{"id":"1b494cdf-f9a5-49b1-98ab-ac316f8e61e9","excerpt":"Finale: My Blind FFX Playthrough - Someday The Dream Will End. — This is it. You took longer to make this post than you played the game.\"\n\n\n\nThat's what I've been wondering. But it's over now - these stupid posts will stop clogging your feeds! I honestly don't know how or why people stuck with me for this long, but thank you. This has been so special.\n\n\n\nThis game is a masterpiece, and is easily in my top 3 games of all time. I hope you all enjoy the final update.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLet's get on with the story proper!\n\n# Sin:\n\n\n\nFinally, I select Sin from the List on the NavMap. It's been sitting there, waiting for me to press it for a long, long time now. But I think I'm finally ready to finish the game...\n\n\n\nYu Yevon's hiding somewhere inside Sin, and we're gonna find him. Cid walks over to the console and presses something.\n\n\n\nWe hear the Hymn of the Fayth once more, except slightly pitched up this time - and that's the cue. Sin appears, and we head off, all of us, to get inside.\n\n\n\n\"If we can't get inside the mouth, will rip open a new one!\"\n\n\n\nOf course lmao. The plan is to actually blow a hole into the giant death monster.\n\n\n\nBrother uses English (or... Japenese?) to tell us to guard Rikku, which is very sweet. And makes me wonder if something's gonna happen to her. Or it WOULD if I hadn't been spoiled lmao.\n\n\n\nOutside the cockpit, Rin offers us some last supplies. I wonder what the game's justification is for him selling rather than giving, but Tidus isn't afraid to ask. He says he'll need the funds to rebuild home after we win. Lmao, what a guy. I head up on to the top of the ship, and we hear the Hymn below. The audio got really weird for this scene, like the voice actors were speaking through muzzles.\n\n\n\nTidus presents Yuna's sphere, and she gets all flustered before he throws it away, saying she won't need it anymore. Which is very nice and made me smile a lot :)\n\n\n\nSuddenly, Sin... like... floats up in some kinda bubble and begins charging some sort of attack.... IS THIS SPACE??? What is happening HOLY SHIT THAT IS CRAZY!\n\n\n\nThe audio completely cuts out, and everyone regains their composure. I'm not entirely sure what's happening, but we get pre-rendered Rikku and she looks significantly more Asian than I thought she would lmao.\n\n\n\nWait this is so epic what the fuck. Sin begins to move closer to us (or us to it) and it's time to fight!\n\n\n\nNow, it's no secret that we've been... busy.... up to this point, so I'm curious to see how we fare.\n\n\n\nOn my first turn, I use Hastega to give us some extra moves. As a test, I swap Yuna in for Wakka, and have her use Doublecast with Thundaga for a scandalous 2MP, dealing around 10K damage. That seems uncharacteristically low for her - it must have very high defense. As much as I'd love to use Auron's new Overdrive, which I don't think I've seen yet, I can't since I'm too far. Seems I need to cycle back to Tidus and move in.\n\n\n\nI have him issue the command and, while we wait, Yuna uses Holy for a fresh 13K! We move in, and so I bring Auron back in. With a swing of his Katana, he summons a dusky, twisting column of air that careens over to Sin's weak point, before hurling his bottle of whiskey over, igniting it. It's an AOE attack, but it still deals a decent chunk of damage. Sin whacks the ship, dealing 1300 damage to the party. I decide it's time to test out the new summon(s).\n\n\n\n# The Magus Sisters:\n\n\n\nCome on out, sisters... let's... see what you... are....\n\n\n\nthey're so fucking weird lmao\n\n\n\nWell, I went through a lot to get them, so....\n\n\n\nErm....\n\n\n\nWhat? What the fuck do you mean.... \"Do as you will.\"?\n\n\n\n\"Go, go!\"\n\n\n\n\"Help ea\"- do I NOT get to CONTROL them??? \n\n\n\nOK??????\n\n\n\nFor context, I am belly laughing while writing this. This is SO weird, but fine, fuck it. \"Do as you will.\"\n\n\n\nIt seems I control each individually, but the commands are just worded funnily lol. On Cindy's turn, I ask her to do as she will and SHE TAKES A BREAK DAWG WE ARE FIGHTING GOD WHAT ARE YOU DOING????\n\n\n\nI've lost all control of myself at this point. I ask Sandy to do as she will as well and she casts reflect on Cindy, then I ask Mindy to fight and she deals 2K. Cool lmao.\n\n\n\nSin begins to collect energy, so I decide it's time for these guys to go back to wherever they came from. I want to actually interact with the mechanics of the fight. I bring Kimahri out to Scan, as normal, and there's a lot here.\n\n\n\nSo it seems like it's about to use Gravija, which will reduce all of our health by 75%. We can ask Sin to back off to prevent that, but I'm not sure he even can in time. It might be better to just tank it, to be honest.\n\n\n\nFor shits and giggles, though, I have Yuna cast Reflect on herself. It doesn't work, of course, but I've never used it before so whatever. Now that we all have a few turns, I use an X-Potion and WHOOPS I meant a Mega Potion. It doesn't matter, since Kimahri using a potion gives Auron the next turn. Sin bashes us twice, knocking Yuna out and leaving the other two (Auron and Kimahri) on critical health. I swap Rikku in to see what she can nab and she gets a Supreme Gem! Oooohhh, sounds shiny! I also swap Tidus in for Kimahri, and revive Yuna.\n\n\n\nThere's no reason to draw this out - if I don't humble myself, I'll GET humbled. I use a (ONE. M. P.) Holy and Overkill the fin for the win. Everyone gets an obscene amount of AP, and we're RIGHT into the next one!\n\n\n\n\n\nI decide to Grand Summon the Magus Sisters, since I at least wanna know what their overdrive is. They blossom, and I ask them to combine their powers.\n\n\n\n\n\n\"Taking a break\"\n\n\n\nAhem.\n\n\n\n\"Combine powers!\"\n\n\n\n\"Taking a break\"\n\n\n\nAre you.... are you fucking quiet quitting on me while we're fighting god? \n\n\n\nI try, no joke, another TEN inputs, not just combining powers, and ALL of them are breaks. Thank you, guys. The world will remember your valiant efforts. Fuck off, the lot of you, I'm bringing Bahamut out. The Grand Summon is wasted, but it doesn't matter. He'll do fine alone. He's the only (pretty much) entirely self-sufficient Aeon I have. He has White Magic for healing and hastening, Black Magic for damaging, an Overdrive and Impulse. Even though he doesn't have my favourite design or entrance, he's my favourite overall purely because of the time and effort I've spent on him.\n\n\n\n\n\nHe tanks the Gravija, losing only 888 health, and gets back to clawing away at that big pimple. One more attack from Sin and it's time for Mega Flare.\n\n\n\nHe charges the beam, shoots point-blank and deals... 35568. Ho. Ly. As is expected after an OD, Sin gets three more turns in succession right after, but can't do enough to take Bahamut down. I'd like everyone else to get some AP, too, so I dismiss him and begin rotating party members.\n\n\n\nLulu proves she's still a force to be reckoned with, even IF she's been SEVERELY outclassed by Yuna at this point, dealing a respectable 8500 damage.\n\n\n\nWith that, the other fin is destroyed. I completely forgot to swap Rikku in, but, uh, I don't think we need it.\n\n\n\n# Sin for real:\n\n\n\n\"When you got the ball, you gotta score\" Holy shit what a CALLBACK, and right before Lulu dives off the edge of the ship face first. Now, it's time for Sinspawn Genais. After healing everyone from the last match, I bring Rikku in to mug it and get a Shining Gem, have Wakka launch an attack, have Lulu cast Reflex and Kimahri cast Scan. That should cover my bases. Apparently, it has a hide-and-recover mechanic, but that won't matter if I can kill it fast enough, now, will it?\n\n\n\nIt's strong, though - a single Waterga almost takes Kimahri out. Yuna comes in for the usual, dealing 14K. I use Auron for the finishing blow, but the poison he got from the Venom attack earlier finishes HIM off, too. Luckily I get a chance to revive, since it's not over yet. Just in time for another Grand Summon, too.\n\n\n\nThis time...\n\n\n\n\n\nValefor. I haven't summoned her since the start of the game, so she's probably a bit behind. Saying that, though, she did get a fancy new OD from Besaid. Energy Blast.\n\n\n\nIt looks supremely cool, and straight up deals 43324 damage. I was NOT expecting that, since Valefor hasn't done more than 4K in this game lmao.\n\n\n\nSin CRASHES down into the earth, and no-one on the ship can believe what they've seen. It seems like cause for celebration, but we know better.\n\n\n\nWe need to kill the cause, not the symptom.\n\n\n\nI save, then head out once more. Yuna is on top of the ship. And she's thinking. Thinking about how Jecht is in pain. How the Fayth said they'd help us out, even though they've presumably been helping us this whole time. How Sin is reborn when Yu Yevon merges with an Aeon. How if she summons an Aeon, he'll join with it, but it'll be small at first. How we can beat it again.\n\n\n\nAnd how... the fayth said it's pointless to keep dreaming. The dream will disappear. Someday the dream will end.\n\n\n\n\"What did he mean? And what is it that Yu Yevon is summoning from within Sin?\" \n\n\n\n....\n\n\n\n\"You won't... go away, will you?\"\n\n\n\n\n\nSin perches at the peak of the city, and we all agree to meet it up there! Weirdly, Lulu of all people says \"Let's go - just you and me\". Is this the affection mechanic? It's funny, because she's the only completely obsolete party member at this point lmao.\n\n\n\nWhatever, I appreciate the spirit!\n\n\n\nNow it's time to fight Sin proper. I go for a Holy, then a Hastega. It draws closer. I have Kimahri Scan it, which reveals it has 140,000 health and will use Giga-Gravitation if I let it. I attack a few more times, and it draws even closer.\n\n\n\nIt's kinda terrifying looking at it up close, those violently pulsating... eyes? Constantly shifting and wriggling. Really creepy.\n\n\n\nAfter sustaining a few more attacks, it opens its mouth slightly. I bring Auron to the frontline and have him use Guard, just in case. I also completely missed that Rikku has been a stone for like 3 turns now lol.\n\n\n\nAfter a few more attacks, it opens its mouth once more. \n\n\n\n\n\nSin launches a blindingly bright attack, and we get swarmed by pyreflies. Suddenly, we hear a chuckle and we're taken somewhere. The ship is lodged in some water, and the menu tells me where in (or at) Sin.\n\n\n\n# Inside Sin:\n\n# \n\n\n\nSo, uhm, that was DEFINITELY Seymour, right? That chuckle and the eye? I'm assuming that those swarms of fayth we saw being absorbed on Mt. Gagazet was Seymour being a fuck again, but I suppose we'll find out soon.\n\n\n\nBefore that, though, we have lots of Spheres. Tidus and Lulu still haven't completed their own sections, so I make some progress there. Everyone else is basically just collecting stat buffs now, except for Yuna, who's making her way towards Lulu's final skill - Flare.\n\n\n\nIn an interesting twist, the map isn't fully revealed to us. Instead, we uncover it as we progress through. There's a large rune on the ground - it looks like the one in... I wanna say Djose? I think it's from the lightning temple, the one where we had to activate the pattern on the floor. I've picked up by now (specifically from the Baaj Temple) that each rune corresponds to a different element. \n\n\n\nThe enemies here pack a punch as well. Specifically, we encounter an Adamantoise, which is crazy durable. It's not such a difficult encounter, though - Mental Break does the trick. We fight the Behemoth King, who has crazy high health, but not a lot of Magic Defense. I'll just keep attacking and... \"Meteor\"...?\n\n\n\nHoly shit we almost just got squad wiped lmao\n\n\n\nAuron manages to grin and bear it with just a SLIVER of health remaining, while Yuna and Kimahri collapse by his side. I can sense some major plot coming up ahead, since we've finally entered Bevelle, so I thought now would be a good time to reflect and update my thoughts and predictions so that I can dedicate a clean, single update in the future to what's been the most anticipated section of the game for me so far.\n\nHere's my newest table!\n\n|Character|Fate (28 hours in, reached Bevelle)|Confidence|\n|:-|:-|:-|\n|Tidus|Either returns to Spira as a hero, living with the friends he's made, or returns to Zanarkand a better person, with everyone none the wiser.|50/50, I suppose. I'm pretty sure he'll be alive, but not everything is life-or-death. By 50/50, I mean 50% says he stays in Spira, another 50% says he returns home.|\n|Wakka|Still has to complete his arc, which is one of the most prominent at the moment. Overcoming his prejudice and grappling with the truth of Yevon (whatever that is).|100% – I don't see him dying, and he'll definitely learn to appreciate the Al Bhed.|\n|Lulu|I still don't know. She is still protective over Yuna, but I can't remember much about HER individually, other than being Chappu's fiancée.||\n|Kimahri|Is probably the least developed at the moment. I'm surprised we've only had 2 real Kimahri-centric scenes this far into the game.|I don't have enough info.|\n|Yuna|Now that the game has actually told me she's going to die, I'm not so sure anymore. I've historically been pretty confident that she's going to die, but it could go either way now, I think. I do think SOMEONE has to die though.|I think there's a 70% chance she dies to kill Sin (as planned) which would be tragic, and a 30% chance Auron dies instead (though I believe Auron dies either way).|\n|Auron|Dead. I think the largest reason I think this is because it feels like his story already happened 10 years ago, and he's kind of like a ghost with unfinished business.|100%. Once again, 30% says it's in place of Yuna, 70% for shits and giggles.|\n|Rikku|I'm also kinda expecting her to become the leader of the Al-Bhed, but only because she's one of them and that's kind of a trope. To be honest, she doesn't really seem the leading type at the moment. I know she's safe though, if only because of a comment pointing her out on the cover of FFX-2 lol.|She's 100% safe, I just don't know what that means for her. We still don't know why she joined us in the first place. It was probably just to ensure Yuna's safety, though I'm not sure to what end. She couldn't have planned we'd end up at Home, right?|\n|Seymour|Evil-ass motherfucker. I said at the beginning of my last post that I didn't have enough of a reason to hate him yet. Well I do now. I REALLY wanna know what the conditions around his survival are.|I mean he's already dead, but he'll be 100% dead-er when we're through with him.|\n\nIt was only last time that I realised Overdrive modes were a thing. Since changing them, my Overdrive increase rate has gone way up.\n\nI almost wish there was a way to manual update the in-game ciphers if you think you know the letters, but it's fine - I have a pen and paper lol. Whenever I've been sure of a word's translation, I've been writing down the letters I could glean from it. Even though I've probably missed a few of the ciphers in-game, I can still decrypt the text in-game pretty well.\n\nI come across a sign in the desert, reading:\n\n**Dan**ka**r!**\n\n**B**af**ar**a ov C**and**cd**or**sc!\n\nThe bold letters are in purple, meaning I have a cipher for them. As for the others, I've written down most of them, except for \"d\" and \"c\". With some inference, I make out what is says:\n\nDanger!\n\nBeware of Sandstorms!\n\nSo I add c --> s and d --> t to my dictionary, and carry on. That's the process I've been using. There might be another bonus for collecting the ciphers, so I'll keep a look out for them either way, but I shouldn't have problem deciphering text anymore (even if it means pausing the cutscene to consult the key).\n\nThere's another:\n\n**Dan**ka**r**!\n\nCd**ron**k **fiend** e**n** je**c**e**n**edo!\n\nWith a bit more inference, I translate it as:\n\nDanger!\n\nStrong fiend in vicinity!\n\nAdding the corresponding letters to the key.\n\nWe finally reach the place, and they're already under attack. I got some crazy whiplash seeing them using actual guns with bayonets. We also see Keyakku - I could be misremembering, but didn't we meet him on the Salvage Ship from the beginning of the game? - who spends his dying breath telling us that the Guado are attacking them! Before I can even question how the Guado knew where to find them despite all the effort it took US to get here, he mentions that they're here for Yuna, right before Cid, Rikku's father, tells us that's wrong.\n\nAs soon as we gain control, I walk over to pay my respects to the fallen, before Tidus loots the still-warm body for 2 Hi-Potions. The game's the game, I guess.\n\nInside, after suffering a couple of ambushes, Cid tells us he plans on leveling Home, and taking the fiend with it. In other words, he's hitting the self-destruct button, I think.\n\nRikku, understandably devastated that her entire home is being destroyed, divulges a bit of Al Bhed history. Apparently, Sin destroyed the home of the Al Bhed a long time ago, and they were scattered across Spira. Since then, they've tried to rebuild, but are now being destroyed by the Guado of all people. I'm wondering what the Guado's motive is here. In fact, why are they taking any action at all? This is the same race who just lost their leader, right?\n\nAlso, Rikku tells us that Yuna is being held in the Summoner's Sanctum. Why would the Al Bhed outpost have a Summoner's Sanctum? We know they've been kidnapping Summoners so I suppose it makes sense to keep them somewhere, but \"Sanctum\" seems a lot cushier than \"holding cell\" or \"jail\". Suggests a sense of reverence, or respect. Maybe I'm just overthinking it, though.\n\nAs if on cue, Lulu asks her where the Summoner's Sanctum is, and Wakka asks why it's even there. She says it's where they keep the summoners, and reasons that they do it because their pilgrimage will harm them. Wakka says he understands why they do it, but Tidus doesn't, and I'm there with him.\n\nWith some slow-motion scenes, and a solemn sense of acceptance in the air, everyone leaves Tidus, one-by-one. Seems he's beginning to realise what I've long theorised. This pilgrimage isn't without sacrifice.\n\nTo defeat Sin, Summoners willingly give their lives and are killed by the final Aeon.\n\nThe weight of the reveal is crushing on Tidus, and I've never been more upset to be completely correct. I'd called this for a long time, and I don't want to give myself too much credit, since I think it was quite obvious.\n\n\"The only one really laughing that day was me\", hmm?\n\nWithout all the information, both Tidus and Cid seem... naïve. If the cost of 10 years of peace is a handful of summoners' lives, then that seems like a fair deal to me. It's cruel, but the numbers check out. We've seen how Sin destroys indiscriminately. If there's no other obvious way to defeat it, then...\n\nBefore I can even finish my thought, Cid launches the airship, with an interesting line of dialogue:\n\n\"Waahaa! A flight 1000 years overdue!\"\n\nWhile leaving, they begin singing the hymn, and launch one of the forbidden machina. Forbidden, presumably, because it is an actual WMD. The exact type of machine that, supposedly, spawned Sin in the first place.\n\n\"What is good about machina, is they can be built anew, you see?\"\n\nWakka makes an... attempt, to comfort Rikku, likening the destruction of everything she's ever known to \"Happy Festival Fireworks\". He's trying, at least. And he recognises his mistake soon afterwards.\n\nThe concept of a pilot desperately praying that the ship he's in charge of will \"keep flying\" is hilarious to me.\n\nAlso, I didn't want to mention it earlier but I got a Level 4(!) Key sphere in that room earlier! No intentions of using it yet, of course, but still cool to find.\n\nKimahri waits outside of the command room, and he says something interesting. He'll use machina if machina will help him find Yuna. Something I've really appreciated in this game is how not everyone has the same response to the big ideas, even if they share the same goals or have similar background. I wonder what makes Kimahri so loyal to Yuna. Auron clearly has some grander purpose that'll be explained, but I don't think it's tied to Yuna as much as it is a larger plot. Kimahri, though, seems really personally responsible for her, far more than anyone else, it seems. I've also neglected to mention his sawed-off horn so far, even after the other Ronso(s?) from earlier mocked him for it.\n\nIsaaru and Dona are also here, and it somehow never occurred to me that, by my own (now confirmed) theory, they, too, would be sacrificing themselves for the greater good. Maroda has dialogue about not wanting Isaaru to die, but he says that there isn't enough time to find another way.\n\nA member of the Al Bhed Psyches is training on the stairs. She says (according to my translation) that all the Psyches escaped harm, and that they're ready to play again. I thought it was quite weird how spirited she was, but the game swiftly answered that response in the next room, when I speak to another player who says they need to keep playing blitz to cheer up their people, now more than ever.\n\nWe also meet the guy who kidnapped Yuna in Luca! He asks us to forgive him for his actions back then, since he just wanted to protect Yuna.\n\nIt's pretty clear that the Al Bhed don't have any deep grudge against the rest of the world, they just don't believe in continually sending people to their death as human sacrifices. The biggest question mark, then, is what are they proposing? I want to cover all remaining hotspots and the Crimson Spheres subplot today, to set us up for whatever's waiting down the hole next time.\n\n\n\nBefore that though, Paine says \"Vidina, is it? Wakka's thinking ahead....\" which is great, because (as I've been told) Vidina translates to Future in Al-Bhed, which Paine has demonstrated she speaks.\n\n\n\n\n\n# DJOSE TEMPLE:\n\n\n\nThe Machine Faction have a new weapon that they want us to test out. I thrash it easily and apparently I need to find repair manuals to rebuild it and fight it again...\n\n\n\n\n\n...I don't really want to do that, though....\n\n\n\nAn NPC in a side room gives me a manual as a token of thanks - was that because I saved him from the Calm Lands earlier? Did I do that?\n\n\n\n\n\n# ZANARKAND RUINS:\n\n\n\nThe monkeys have officially taken over, meaning the ruins have been protected from the nosy tourists. Yuna resolves to protect the place until she finds somewhere that means more to her. And the episode is complete. \n\n\n\nRandomly, Maechen is here.\n\n\n\nVegnagun was constructed during the Machine war, but was never used. Apparently, Vegnagun was a huge failure. It was quick to respond to hostility, but lacked the ability to discern friend from foe, slaughtering indiscriminately. That's what I'd figured.\n\n\n\n\"I tell stories to put my memories into words before they slip away. Even if I forget the stories, someone can tell them in my place. The bonds that connect us carry our memories into the future.\"\n\n\n\nDamn. That hits like a truck. Especially since it seems like he's officially taken his leave from the story. He seems to be forgetting things in his old age. How sad.\n\n\n\nTruly. The GOAT.\n\n\n\n\n\n# GUADOSALAM:\n\n\n\nThe band of weirdos are playing music to a crowd of Guado gathered outside of Leblanc's place and Tromell is here. I never really liked this guy, but he seems alright. He has a great voice.\n\n\n\nHe says that he's aware of the Ronso's hatred for the Guado, and that he'd be willing to do basically anything at this point. Whether that means diplomacy or death.\n\n\n\nAfter some deliberation, Tromell decides to lead the Guado into the future, resolving to be different from his predecessors, Jyscal and Seymour. Yeah. I like that resolution. I think the game's earned it. \n\n\n\n\n\n# MT. GAGAZET:\n\n\n\nGarik is making a conscious attempt to be better, to beat his anger and avoid destruction. He feels like the power bestowed upon the Ronso by the mountain is being wasted now that Sin is gone and there are no summoners left.\n\n\n\nKimahri has no answer to this, but there is good news in the children we found in the Thunder Plains earlier, Lian and Ayde, returned to the mountain. I assume if I hadn't found them this wouldn't have happened.\n\n\n\nKimahri really does seem like an Elder. He's so wise and understanding, even if he doesn't have all of the answers. \n\n\n\nKimahri, pensive, walks past Yuna telling her he's decided.\n\n\n\nUp on the mountain, Garik strikes Kimahri and Kimahri completely rocks his shit, telling him that Garik needs to find his own answer. He's been inspired by Lian and Aide finding their own path, and thinks Garik should help him do the same.\n\n\n\n\n\n\"Looking to the future is better than looking back at things lost\" (or something to that effect).\n\n\n\nEpisode Complete!\n\n\n\n\n\n# THUNDER PLAINS:\n\n\n\nApparently Shinra accidentally cause a fiend apocalypse. We have to defeat 9 fiends, one at each tower, before the final one appears. The first 9 are all fodder, but the last one...\n\n\n\nHumbaba.\n\n\n\nIts Scan is... disquieting. It has 27772HP, is resistant to various things, has Shell, Protect, Haste, and the description says that the true peril follows its fall in battle... what the hell could THAT mean?\n\n\n\nAfter a fairly long battle (Paine has become VERY strong in Warrior) we lower its HP enough for it to use METEOR, almost wiping us out.... OK not really, it got Paine who was already quite low but the rest of us are fine. We get a Ribbon for our efforts!\n\n\n\nImmediately after, though, someone nearby says there's a new hole...? After saving, I enter and it's... a long, foreboding corridor?\n\n\n\nOh this is gonna be fucking annoying isn't it?\n\n\n\nSo it's this dungeon comprised of small corridors, right? EXCEPT. Some fucker on the design team decided said corridors should be LONG AS HELL. MEANING. Before you get ANYWHERE you'll get jumped by 10,000 fiends. The annoying part is that this isn't even a problem worth worrying about since all the enemies are complete fodder. So it's literally just:\n\n\n\nDefeat enemy - equip Heady Perfume - regain all MP - repeat ad nauseum.\n\n\n\nAfter a long walk, we run into... Cid? COMPLETELY forgot about this guy lmao. So apparently this dumbass found a hole and decided to clamber in, and now we need to rescue him. A huge machine appears and attacks us, and it's accompanied by those weird watcher things that've been accosting us throughout the game. Someone told me something about these things, but I elected to ignore it because I wanted an authentic experience.\n\n\n\nI still don't know what they did but I beat the things pretty easily so that's cool. The mission ends on a slightly depressing note, with Yuna reflecting on how she never got to have a back-and-forth with her father (or even Jecht) like Brother and Cid can.\n\n\n\n\n\n# MACALANIA WOODS:\n\n\n\nMy favourite location in the game has come down with some sort of amethyst hue. It's dying....? Bayra and co. mentioned something along those lines earlier.\n\n\n\nWe take one more walk through it, when we meet a woman who tells us that the Woods are fading away since everyone left. And we're left with the sapphire sky, the gushing water and the soft, contemplative music dancing in the back.\n\n\n\nYuna asks the others to give her a moment alone, and she takes a moment to reflect. Standing by the shore of the lake, she whistles.\n\n\n\n\"I'm not ready to call this just a memory. Not yet.\"\n\n\n\n\n\n# MUSHROOM ROCK ROAD:\n\n\n\n\n\nNow that the conflict between New Yevon and the Youth League has been averted, it seems like they're hosting some sort of friendly competition to blow off some steam.\n\n\n\nThe task is simple - beat 7 waves in a row.\n\n\n\nGenuinely the easiest, most pathetic string of fights in the game. Perhaps in any FF I've played. Not entirely sure why this was reserved for Chapter 5 but we move!\n\n\n\nLucil delivers a rousing speech set against the boss theme music (for some reason?) and that's a job well done. Cool!\n\n\n\n\n\n\\_\\_\\_\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOK, so here's the thing. There are only 3 hotspots left - Djose Temple (which is where that boss machine thing is), Luca (Blitzball (I'm not doing that)) and Bikanel (which has a 5-star rating, implying it houses a superboss).\n\n\n\nI'm not really inclined to do any of these things. As I mentioned last time, I'm aware there's a different ending for 100% completion, or at least completing certain steps, but I'm not planning a New Game Plus for this game. I'd like to watch any alternate ending on YouTube after the fact, but I'm not going out of my way for max completion.\n\n\n\nWhich brings us to...\n\n\n\n\n\n# BEVELLE:\n\n\n\nNew Yevon is so desperate to recoup their numbers that they've recruited even the fucking Kinderguardians and Maroda. Inside the temple, a path to the right houses a mysterious glyph glowing on the floor. Taking it brings us to a chamber completely SWARMING with pyreflies.\n\n\n\n\n\n# VIA INFINITO:\n\n\n\nApparently we're in the Farplane? Certainly doesn't look lik....\n\n\n\nWho the f-- IS THAT MAECHEN???\n\n\n\nOK no it isn't. Apparently this place was locked away until a man named Trema unlocked it's secrets. He sunk down below and never returned.\n\n\n\nWAIT maybe it IS MAECHEN??? He sounds just like him, and Maechen was being all mysterious before about where he got his knowledge from.\n\n\n\nIs Maechen this Trema person?\n\n\n\n\n\nWhoever this mysterious person is, they drop a Crimson Sphere. It's the trio, reflecting on entering a place and just about escaping.\n\n\n\n\"We saw it... that apparition! It was an enormous machine. It trembled and growled like a beast.\"\n\n\n\nThis must be their first encounter with the thing that possessed Nooj.... which I assume to be the spirit of Shuyin. After this, they're officially recognised as Crimson Squad members, before Paine off screen desperately shouts at them to run. Bullets ring out and the Sphere ends.\n\n\n\nI remember being told that Nooj shot the others, but this sphere seems to tell us that they were betrayed by the army? It seems like the three (or four?) of them knew too much and were to be quietly dispatched.\n\n\n\n\"Within this labyrinth, fiends will appear despite any special abilities or equipment you may be using\"\n\n\n\nIt's just a series of floors with a Tonberry on each one. Seems very simple, they're not difficult to beat at all and we're given a couple of save points to return at any time. I'm on Cloister 5 right now - I wonder how many there are?\n\n\n\nThen we find a huge enemy on floor 7 and instantly get fucking mauled to death. I'm not joking, this thing is doing like double our max HP on a BASIC attack. So yeah I just avoid it next time.\n\n\n\n\n\nInterestingly, I can avoid the Tonberry on every single floor. I'm not sure if there's some reason to fight/avoid them, so I'll just steer clear wherever I can to speed things up.\n\n\n\nCloister 13 now, and it isn't getting any harder. I'm almost entirely certain that this is gonna become a pain in the ass eventually, but right now we're just cruising through!\n\n\n\n\n\nIn Cloister 20, someone's waiting for us. It's.... Maester Kinoc???? What the fuck? Oh shit he's the big spider thingy from the beginning of the game! What the hell? Well, he's pathetically weak so we take him out. Initially I (and Rikku) thought he was unsent, but apparently not? \n\n\n\nHe drops another Crimson Sphere!\n\n\n\nNooj tells Paine he's glad she's alright, and Paine asks what they all saw back there. They make such an interesting group - such contrasting designs and attitudes. They decide to split up, so as to not dr- OH SHIT HE'S FIRING. OK, so THAT'S when that happened. They were betrayed by the military first, then ran away and possessed-Nooj fired at the others. I'm unsure how they even survived that encounter, though.\n\n\n\n\n\nWith that, we have all 10 Crimson Spheres! I'm quite proud of myself to be honest, it is VERY easy to simply walk past or miss one of them. Before I check out the weird door, I'm going to finish off Via Infinito.\n\n\n\nOne thing I want to mention, though, is that I'm interested in the fact that Nooj is the one who prompted us to figure out the secret behind the door, when he was possessed by Shuyin. Why did Shuyin want us to get past it? Is there something there for him that he wants?\n\n\n\n\n\nUnfortunately, in my haste I run into another one of those weird dragon things and get wiped again! Goddamnit.\n\n\n\n\n\nCloister 32 now, and things are indeed getting rough. Even the normal enemies are packing a punch, and the big fuck off dragons are getting harder to dodge. We're even fighting some Humbaba, which was a pretty substantial boss earlier.\n\n\n\n\n\nCloister 40 and WAS THAT JYSCAL? Oh we just die now OK that's cool I guess. Ultima. Sick. Thanks game lmao. I think that's probably my natural end. I wonder how many floors there were. Probably 50...\n\n\n\nlet me see...\n\n\n\n\n\nONE HUNDRED??? What the FUCK does floor NINETY-NINE look like if I got murdered on 40????? I'm really interested in what happens as you descend further, and who else you get to meet. If you meet a dead person every 20 floors, then I wonder who else we could see? Maybe Seymour? Auron? Then again, we don't know why Kinoc and Jyscal were there - were their deaths special in some way?\n\n\n\n\n\n# CRIMSON DOOR:\n\n\n\n\n\nWith all spheres collected, we can finally open the mysterious door. It's strange. I feel like I know everything there is to know about Paine's past, at least as far as it concerns Gippal, Nooj and Baralai. But maybe there's more to it than that? This is an update to a prior theory I had made before but this one includes most of that information also)\n\nI don’t think Final Fantasy Rebirth is showing us traditional timelines.\n\nThe word “timeline” makes this sound cleaner than it is. It makes people imagine full parallel universes with neat histories. The alternate worlds feel fragile. Some are ending. Some seem stitched together from memory. Some exist just long enough for a choice, a meeting, a transfer, or a goodbye. They behave less like normal universes and more like shards: broken pieces of the larger FFVII story, preserved through the Lifestream.\n\nThe original FFVII is the root memory.\n\nhttps://preview.redd.it/yj6r6xwoja6h1.jpg?width=480&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0475e649b6ab47a9b54cd678a4f7c3e9ea7a8b94\n\nThe shards are made from things that happened, things people remember, things people regret, and maybe things they desperately wished had happened.\n\nAerith starts out with memories of the original story.\n\nSephiroth wants to gather them into himself.\n\n\\*\\*The Lifestream is not just “dead people energy”\\*\\*\n\nOne of the most common to hear about important clues comes from Cosmo Canyon. There is an NPC who talks about a theory that spiritual energy is made from knowledge and memories. Then they push it further: what about hopes, dreams, and unrealized desires?\n\nThe key idea is basically this:\n\nWhat if spiritual energy does not distinguish between real memories and unrealized desires?\n\nIf the Lifestream can preserve both lived memory and buried desire, then the alternate worlds do not need to be standard timelines. They can be story-shards formed from memory or longing.\n\nIn Remake, Biggs says:\n\n“Mako’s the essence of life itself. Of memory and hope.”\n\nIn Rebirth, Gi Nattak explains that the Gi took sacred materia and “imbued it with our desire for freedom,” and after an eternity, “the materia began to stir.”\n\nThe Lifestream may be less like a river of souls and more like the Planet’s living archive of memory, emotion, and possibility.\n\nThat is where the shards come from.\n\n\\# The OG is the root memory\n\nThe original FFVII still matters and is where everything spawns from.\n\nZack dies. Aerith dies. Meteor is summoned. Holy comes late. The Lifestream saves the Planet. Sephiroth loses, but he does not disappear completely. Advent Children shows that he continues through memory, Jenova, Geostigma, and Cloud’s unresolved guilt.\n\nThat makes Remake feel different from a normal retelling even right of the bat.\n\nAerith knows things too early.\n\nSephiroth knows too much.\n\nThe Whispers behave like the story’s immune system, trying to keep events on the known path. Red describes them as arbiters of fate, drawn to people who try to alter destiny’s course. Later, he says they intervene “to preserve the flow of destiny.”\n\nFrom the Planet’s perspective, the OG path is ugly but successful. Sephiroth loses there. That path costs Zack and Aerith, but the Planet survives.\n\nSephiroth wants out of that ending.\n\n\\# Sephiroth is trying to own every shard\n\nSephiroth’s plan in Rebirth is bigger than Meteor.\n\nThe deeper problem is Sephiroth trying to collapse possible worlds, histories, emotions, and memories into one eternal self.\n\nAt the Temple, Sephiroth says his dominion will include:\n\n“worlds unbound by fate and histories unwritten.”\n\nhttps://preview.redd.it/mpml0yz4ia6h1.jpg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=76e70724b9a7a5eef9ff8875bbb2ed503cff8248\n\nThen he calls Jenova his “fragmented mother” and says the errant worlds will be one again. Aerith immediately calls this “The Reunion.”\n\nAt the Forgotten Capital, he gets even more direct:\n\n“The reunion, when worlds merge…”\n\nThen he links that merging to “spite and sorrow” being harvested.\n\nSephiroth is not just merging the physical timelines. He is harvesting emotion. Loss, spite, sorrow, grief, longing. The worlds are made from those ingredients, and Sephiroth wants all of them.\n\n\\# Beagle World 5 may be Sephiroth’s Remake shard\n\nStamp is the funniest evidence in the trilogy because it is also some of the strongest. These are even discussed in the Ultimania. Different worlds have different Stamp dogs. The breed changes when the world changes. The devs have also spoken about these in interviews as them being essentially guideposts to what world you are in.\n\nBut the stars may matter too.\n\nKnown Stamp variants appear to line up like this:\n\nhttps://preview.redd.it/sop4mz0pha6h1.jpg?width=3524&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=32ed984258d9764a33830de3e52f9ff6dd3c5082\n\nThat leaves World 1 and World 2 unseen.\n\nThe Beagle world being #5 is weird. The main playable world is not numbered 1. ( that could be nothing but its still weird)\n\nOne possible explanation: Beagle World 5 is not the root world. It may be a shard created or corrupted by Sephiroth’s unresolved will after OG or Advent Children.\n\nAt the Edge of Creation in Remake, Sephiroth says:\n\n“That which lies ahead…does not yet exist.”\n\nThen:\n\n“But I…will not end.”\n\nThen he asks Cloud to defy destiny with him.\n\nThat sounds like someone trying to escape a known fate.\n\nSo World 5 may be the literal Remake shard: a new world born from Sephiroth’s refusal to become only memory.\n\nHis desire is simple:\n\nI will not end,I will not accept defeat. I will not remain trapped in the story where Cloud beats me. For example in Advent Children one of his most important lines is him saying \"I will never be a memory\"\n\n\\# World 1 and World 2 are suspiciously missing\n\nIf the Stamp stars are world numbers, then we have seen 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7.\n\nWe have not seen stamps with 1 or 2 stars.\n\nMy current guess is:\n\nThose would be the two biggest reveals to hold back.\n\nThe original tragedy (the OG timeline). The impossible rescue (Aerith not getting hit).\n\n\\# Zack’s worlds prove shards can touch and split\n\nZack’s tunnel sequence is basically a tutorial. This entire scene happens a chapter prior and feels like set up to show us how this works in more detail\n\nhttps://preview.redd.it/5m8p9hdaga6h1.jpg?width=640&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3377b2a5c126983715ebf10e73732c9b93ff3200\n\nHe reaches a fork. He chooses. Rainbow light appears from the path he does not take. Worlds branch or shift. Immediately after that it shows us which world is which, Biggs is eating a bag of chips with a Pug stamp on it. Zack reaches where cloud was taken and it shows the Terrier stamp again on a closed sign.\n\nWorld 4, Terrier, is the main “Zack survived” shard and he stays in this world when he goes right instead of left, the game makes it a very deliberate point once again to show what world he is in after his decision.\n\nhttps://preview.redd.it/cwu8zakrda6h1.jpg?width=172&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9c37d81b321420f704c528dac0c646fb9eee99ff\n\nWorld 6, Pug, is the Biggs branch and after Zack makes his choice it also shows this world and Biggs with his bag of chips with a six star pug on it that the game purposefully shows us the stamp again.\n\nWorld 7, Corgi, is where Zack wakes up in the church after fighting alongside Cloud against Sephiroth in the final battle of the second game. (fun fact about this one is we weren't able to see the number of stars on it until the PC release and we used free cam)\n\nThat Corgi world is especially important.\n\nAfter Zack wakes up, he says:\n\n“Nah, I couldn’t have dreamt that.”\n\nThen:\n\n“It all felt way too real.”\n\nThen:\n\n“But who’s to say they can’t unite again?”  \n\nhttps://preview.redd.it/tkd1aq6eca6h1.jpg?width=1320&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=37f366eb0c51cff47ca8d11db01f8924b53ee7b1\n\nThe game is telling us that worlds can unite, part, and maybe unite again. In fact it hints about this over and over.\n\nSometimes people can traverse them.\n\n\\# Johnny in the Corgi world is a problem for the “personal dream” idea\n\nJohnny carrying the Corgi Stamp doll matters more than it seems.\n\nhttps://preview.redd.it/wt8k14lpba6h1.jpg?width=640&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c332e05eb8faa048de9fae36ed3b19e2f579feaf\n\nZack has never met Johnny.\n\nIf these worlds were just personal Lifestream dreams for dead people, Johnny should not be there. Zack has no memory of him. No emotional connection. No reason to imagine him running by with a Stamp doll.\n\nJohnny’s presence suggests these worlds are broader than one person’s private memory.\n\nThey are pieces of the FFVII story record from across the board.\n\nThis shows us a timeline can include people, places, or details from the larger story even if the focal character does not personally know them.\n\n\\# World 3 is the date shard\n\nWorld 3, the Spitz date-world, is one of the clearest examples of a desire-shard.\n\nhttps://preview.redd.it/tx99geuq8a6h1.jpg?width=505&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8625a77bcfcb8fbdc84afdbcfc0b125ede1d603c\n\nCloud and Aerith get a quiet day together. They shop. They talk. The sky is cracked. The world is ending. Sephiroth finds them.\n\nIt also pays off an old promise. In \\*Remake\\*, Aerith hires Cloud as her bodyguard and says:\n\n“One date ought to do it.”  \n\nWorld 3 finally gives them that date, but it is not just romantic closure. It has a job.\n\nAerith gives Cloud the White Materia there. That makes the date world a transfer timeline. This might have been its purpose the entire time which explains why its already falling apart so heavily.\n\nA place built from memory and longing but used for strategy. Is it possible that back in the past Aerith made this world as a place to pass this on before she lost her memories of the future? It's more shaky than some of the other rainbow events but here's a screenshot from that scene specifically.  There is a rainbow on the door behind them when they make this agreement and immediately after the fight that follows whispers show up.\n\nhttps://preview.redd.it/2gffcrg08a6h1.jpg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0350df6b142f1840416d3f0acfe35dfa873dad81\n\nThe White Materia proves shards can affect each other\n\nThe White Materia is one of the biggest pieces of evidence that these worlds matter.\n\nAerith’s materia becomes clear after the Whispers take something from her. In Kalm, Tifa asks if Aerith knows where Cloud has been. Aerith says she probably did at one point, but that knowledge was “taken” or “erased.” Tifa asks if the Whispers did it, and Aerith says yes.\n\nThat means Aerith had knowledge she should not have had but the Whispers removed it.\n\nLater, in the date world, Aerith gives Cloud the White Materia. He carries it across the boundary and brings it back into the main story area. Something actually crosses.\n\nA timeline can transfer matter, memory, or spiritual information into another timeline.\n\nModern Square keeps circling this same idea. In the \\*Final Fantasy Tactics\\* remaster, materia is described as stones used for “storing knowledge within gems,” and White Materia is said to grant “the power of rebirth.” Which was not part of its definition in the original Tactics. Other lines were also changed like Cloud now saying \"I've lost someone... someone important\" rather than him originally saying he's lost \"something\"\n\nhttps://preview.redd.it/6c4qjkia7a6h1.jpg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=85efac2d30f4992409cff71cc445e0a121d5c002\n\nCloud blocking the sword may create World 2\n\nThe altar scene is the center of this theory.\n\nhttps://preview.redd.it/4ue5lchy6a6h1.jpg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=904a13de750f3a2e5b03fbba9255b3b01edfe5dc\n\nCloud blocks Sephiroth’s sword.\n\nThe blade stops.\n\nAerith lives.\n\nThen reality fractures.\n\nBlood appears.\n\nBlood disappears.\n\nAerith falls.\n\nAerith wakes in one scene.\n\nThe party mourns in another.\n\nThe whispers are going absolutely crazy during all of this. Something with fate is either being changed or attempting to be changed.\n\nCloud prevents Sephiroth from impaling Aerith and we actually see the sword stick into the ground, then the Whispers rise from the sword, and the scene is corrected into Aerith’s death. Right after that, Sephiroth says:\n\n“A c","offTopic":true},{"id":"42a8f7f4-570e-42ce-ade7-57ce30dc4b21","excerpt":"Playing FFX-2 Blind: Update 8 - Chapter 3 Complete (and theories) — Meme stolen from u/YoMikeeHey\n\n\n\nI'm finishing Chapter 3 today, and giving my best theory on what's happened so far. But first, some more optional stuff to knock out, and something that I genuinely can't BELIEVE is optional.\n\n\n\n# CALM LANDS:\n\n\n\nThere are some people trapped in the cave, although this isn't a hotspot, so...\n\n\n\nFine.\n\n\n\nIt's a decently fun mission. At first I thought we'd have to plan in advance and keep track of all of the different victims, but we can make return trips so there's not much need to optimise. One of them also gives me a \"Besaid Key\". I wonder what that's about.\n\n\n\nWhen we unlock the teleporter to the Chamber, we literally just get jumped by YOJIMBO? Where the fuck did THIS come from? I never saw it, but is this Dark Yojimbo? I mean he looks really different, but then again so did Bahamut, so this is probably something else entirely. If I remember correctly, Yojimbo actually spoke in X, but he doesn't seem to wanna speak with Yuna when she asks him what the hell's happening.\n\n\n\n\n\nHe has a lot of health, but isn't dealing a ton of damage. Kozuka only targets MP, while Wakizashi and Daigoro deal around 200 damage. I just hope he doesn't----\n\n\n\n**ZANMATO**\n\n\n\n\n\nOK so we're on 1HP and 1MP each now lmao. I'm not gonna lose to this greedy fucker, so I'm pulling out the Elixir. I meant to use it on Yuna but she died before receiving it so it went to Rikku. Suddenly, he uses Zanmato again. Rikku dies immediately on her next turn from the poison, and Wakizashi and Daigoro finish the other 2, wiping us out. Great. Thanks for the FUCKING warning game!!!!\n\n\n\n\n\nOK this fight is bullshit purely because he actually combos you. Zanmato being (afaik) an unblockable 1HP/1MP reset which he can immediately follow up with poison and quick attacks is the type of shit I wish I COULD do.\n\n\n\nWhat's far worse is that my last save is from 20 minutes ago, meaning I'm relying on my autosave.\n\n\n\n\n\nI'm gonna skip the details here, because I really couldn't alter my strategy or anything. I just kept bashing my head against the wall until I managed to scrape away at his health. After I do it, though, we're just.... kicked out??????? What the FUCK game, there were 2 other people in there?????\n\n\n\nThis game has REALLY tested my patience with its lack of communication on things like this. Well fine, those two can fucking die I guess, Gullwings don't have time for that shit.\n\n\n\n\n\nOh look a new Garment Grid. \"Tetra Ma\"-\n\n\n\noh my god bruh\n\n\n\nDon't remind me.\n\n\n\n# \n\n# MI-IHEN HIGHROAD:\n\n\n\n\n\nOK, FINALLY the last stop before we visit the hotspots.\n\n\n\nSeems straightforward\n\n\n\n...\n\n\n\nOK done it let's move on.\n\n\n\nI'm serious I do NOT WANT TO DO any more side content it's fun\\* but I'm ready for story now thanks.\n\n\n\n\n\n# BESAID ISLAND:\n\n\n\n\n\nTime to tackle these hotspots. First up, Besaid.\n\n\n\nBeclem (former Crusader) wants to torch the temple, Wakka doesn't, conflict ensues. Hey, what's this guy in the side room talking about? Some hidden treasure in the cave by the ruins? Locked chest in the next room?\n\n\n\nI unlock the chest (I think with the Besaid Key I got from the mission in the Calm Lands) and receive a Search Sphere.\n\n\n\nNot even 10 minutes in and we're already doing side content lmao. \n\n\n\nI monitor frequencies on the island to find what looks like a small CommSphere, then use it and find a small number 3 hiding atop the temple. This is a really involved mission, I like it quite a lot though.\n\n\n\nThe next one's a 0, and then what's either a 1 or a 7. OK no the NEXT one's a 7. So it seems the code is 3017. We go through the ruins, get taken to a sort of plateau overlooking the waterfall where a chest waits for us on the far side, giving us a new Garment Grid. Raging Giant. I probably will not use this.\n\n\n\nWakka's been beat lmao, I really though he still had it. We take the lift down and there's Valefor. Which surprised me for a moment, then immediately made complete sense. She went down VERY easily, by the way.\n\n\n\nI'm sensing a trend here. Are we going to fight all of the previous Aeons? We've already knocked off Valefor, Bahamut and Yojimbo. \n\n\n\n\n\n# LUCA:\n\n\n\nSpoke to Dona, reunited her with Barthello kinda, plundered the temple and fought Ifrit. Not much to say to be honest.\n\n\n\n# BEVELLE:\n\n\n\nGippal's here...? Why? I thought he was neutral to all of this.\n\n\n\nTHEY'RE ALL HERE? Gippal, Nooj and Baralai.\n\n\n\n...\n\n\n\nOK, so THEY'RE the members of the Crimson Squad who escaped. Or, trainees? Nooj and Baralai are at the very least, but it seems like Gippal might be the third. \n\n\n\nHOW IS ALL OF THIS OPTIONAL?\n\n\n\nNooj betrayed Baralai and Gippal \"shooting them in the back\". What's more, Nooj intended to use Vegnagun and destroy it. \n\n\n\n\"You were easy targets. You, and Paine\"\n\n\n\nHUHHHH\n\n\n\nHe's glowing, pyreflies swarming his body. Is Nooj possessed by  something? \"He was too weak to resist me\". What the fuck is HAPPENING MY GOD!\n\n\n\nSo there's some entity that can possess bodies, first with Nooj two years ago, and then Baralai just now?\n\n\n\n\"You wanna know?\"\n\n\n\n\"Yeah but forcing you to tell isn't any better so we'll wait until you're ready\" mannnn shut the fuck up Yuna lmaoooo I wanna hear.\n\n\n\n\n\nOK so that's finished. Here's my understanding of what's happened so far.\n\n\n\nGippal, Nooj, Baralai and Paine were all on or training to be on the Crimson Squad 2 years ago. Nooj was possessed by something that's now moved on to possessing Baralai and shot the others because of it. Somehow, 3 of the 4 of them ended up leading the most important factions in the world. I also don't quite know what the Crimson Squad actually is, and, most importantly, was that actually Ormi and Logos in the sphere? Because why on EARTH would they be in charge or working for the person in charge of something like that?\n\n\n\nI got the Ribbon while I was here, which took FUCKING ages oh my LORD. I don't even know what I did or how I did it but after a long slog and many repetitions of the same fight I managed to grab it.\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat I'm interested in now is what's gonna happen at Djose? Are we just not gonna see Gippal there? Because if we do then surely the story has to acknowledge what we just saw, despite it being optional.\n\n\n\n\n\n# DJOSE TEMPLE:\n\n# \n\nOK, he's not here but the game acknowledges what we just saw by asking whether he's still with Baralai.\n\n\n\nBlah blah blah, one more push through the Cloister and a (very easy) fight against another Aeon and we return to the sh-\n\n\n\nOH.\n\n\n\nNevermind. Yuna fell down the hole. She wakes up in a very familiar place. My memory fails me, though. I remember seeing this, but don't remember where it is. Yuna's outfit changed, though, and when she comes too she sees Tidus.\n\n\n\n\"It's me, Shuyin\"\n\n\n\nHUH???\n\n\n\nAnd he thinks Yuna is \"Lenne\". I've DEFINITELY heard that name before, but I don't remember where. I don't think I've included it in any of my previous posts, but maybe I missed it?\n\n\n\n\"We disappeared together, but when I woke up, you weren't there\"\n\n\n\n\"While I wandered, I realised something. Spira hasn't really changed at all\"\n\n\n\n\"A thousand years have passed, and they can't leave their hatred behind\"\n\n\n\n\"I'm through with waiting. I'll fix it.\"\n\n\n\nSounds like main villain talk...\n\n\n\n\"This world continues to fail us, and what's worse, I failed to protect you.\"\n\n\n\n\"Vegnagun will make that all go away. And we'll fade again. Together.\"\n\n\n\nIs this the thing that's possessed Baralai? I can't imagine this is actually Tidus, and maybe my other theory was wrong. Maybe it's some sort of demon that takes the shape of your loved ones??? That wouldn't explain how he was on the sphere, though.\n\n\n\nSuddenly Nooj and Gippal are here and OH Tidus just transformed into Baralai. All 3 of them are here with us, although I'm not entirely sure where here is. The pyreflies are still surrounding Baralai's body, who tells us that the end is not far now, before creating some sort of void portal and entering it, leaving us.\n\n\n\nThey both give us a crimson sphere each, before telling us everything's under control and leaving.\n\n\n\n...they're so cool...\n\n\n\n# CHAPTER 3 COMPLETE\n\n\n\nThe end of Chapter 3 is by FAR the most interesting scene in the game so far. Yuna falls into a hole, meets fake Tidus who's called \"Shuyin\", who thinks she's someone called Lenne, then begins evaporating before Nooj interrupts, at which point Shuyin turns into Baralai who enters a portal and leaves, before Nooj and Gippal follow him into it, giving us two more crimson spheres.\n\n  \nLike actually what the fuck lmao\n\n\n\n# THEORIES:\n\n\n\nOK, if I HAD to try to put it all together:\n\n  \n\\- I don't think Shuyin is actually Tidus, or even really looks like him. Maybe he transforms into whatever his target loves the most, and then takes over their mind. He's from 1,000 years ago, and his goal is to use Vegnagun to destroy Spira.\n\n  \n\\- Vegnagun is itself a weapon that was created during the war between Yevon and Zanarkand, but ultimately went unused.\n\n  \n\\- Lenne is someone Shuyin cared for but failed to protect - maybe killed by Yevon in the war? - and now wants revenge on the world. Presumably she looked like Yuna? Leblanc kinda shapeshifted into her at the beginning of the game so that could be what she looks like. The resemblance is uncanny though - maybe she was one of Yuna's ancestors?\n\n  \n\\- Another theory is what I previously believed - that Shuyin is the real version of Tidus from the real Zanarkand who's been revived somehow. The reason I'm not so confident in this is that this guy is clearly a villain lol.\n\n  \n\\- Paine, Gippal, Nooj and Baralai are all old war buddies, who were torn apart when Nooj was possessed by what I'm gonna assume was Shuyin and shot the other three. That's basically confirmed at this point.\n\n  \n\\- I don't know how or why the Aeons have returned and are fighting us now, but I expect that'll be answered in due course.","offTopic":true}],"breakdown":[{"sourceKey":"reddit","sourceName":"Reddit","count":6}],"total":6}}
