We'd use one app for workouts, another for nutrition, then have random training questions pop up that would be perfect for a coach but not worth paying someone full-time for.\n\nWe started asking around at local gyms and kept hearing the same thing - there's no good workout app that feels like using an actual journal. Either they're cluttered with features nobody needs, or the simple ones suck.\n\nSo we spent countless hours building Fiterate using React Native and Supabase as well as Figma for design - working on it most days after work and having weekly check-ins to figure out what direction we were taking. Honestly, some of the technical stuff was harder than expected - like figuring out how to fit every exercise type on one clean workout screen without it feeling cramped. Took a lot of discussion to nail down something that accomplished this.\n\n**What we built:**\n\n* **Workout logging** that feels like writing in a journal - sets, reps, weight, and notes\n* **Nutrition tracking** with barcode scanner, quick add, and search that doesn't suck\n* **AI helper** for fitness and nutrition questions based on your data\n\nWe went iOS first since more gym-goers seem to use iPhones, and just launched it yesterday.\n\nThe whole thing is totally free - no ads, no upsells, nothing sneaky. We just wanted to build something we'd actually want to use without all the BS that comes with most fitness apps.\n\n**What I'd love feedback on:** Anything really. UX issues, missing features, if the whole journal approach is wrong - whatever you notice when you try it.\n\nQuick heads up: Once you sign up, hit the edit profile screen and add your goals/stats so the AI helper can give you better suggestions. \n\niOS: [https://apps.apple.com/us/app/fiterate-smart-health/id6748665053](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/fiterate-smart-health/id6748665053) \n\nThanks for checking it out! Maker here, not a random happy user, so take the enthusiasm accordingly.\n\nI'm posting for a specific and slightly annoying reason, which I'll get to at the end.\n\nWhat it does, chicken side first\n\n* Hatch and fertility rates per pairing. Log eggs set, fertile, hatched, and alive at 48 hours, and it works out hatch rate, fertility rate, and chick survival for each pairing over time. The point is being able to tell which rooster and hen combination is actually producing, instead of going on memory.\n* Incubation countdowns. Set date, lockdown date, hatch date, with email reminders 3 days and 1 day before lockdown and before hatch. Free on every tier.\n* Cost per egg. Log what you collect, tag your feed and supply costs, and it works out what your eggs actually cost you. It only counts poultry tagged expenses, so goat dewormer doesn't quietly inflate your egg number.\n* Per hen laying records. Log by hen or do a fast whole coop daily entry. It ranks hens by production over a rolling 8 week window and flags a bird laying well under the coop average.\n* Chicken genetics. A real Punnett square calculator for rose comb, pea comb, crest, feathered feet, barring, silver and gold, and the blue egg gene, with egg colour predictions for a pairing. Quail get their own separate genetics, because quail are not small chickens and treating them that way gives wrong answers.\n* Health records with withdrawal periods. Log a medication and it tracks when eggs are safe to eat again, with a warning banner while the withdrawal is active. This is not gated behind a paid tier and never will be.\n* Full lineage. Sire and dam links, offspring lists, and a 4 generation pedigree.\n\nIt also handles ducks, geese, quail, turkeys, guinea fowl, peafowl, rabbits, goats, sheep, pigs, miniature horses and miniature cows, if you keep more than birds.\n\nWhat's new since the start of August\n\n* Pedigree import. Take a photo of a registry pedigree and it reads the ancestors off it and fills in the family tree, with a review screen so you can correct anything before it saves.\n* Two way messages in the app. You can report a bug or ask for a feature from any screen, and I actually reply in the app rather than it vanishing into a form. Members cannot message members.\n* An Android app, which is what this post is about.\n\nThe free tier is genuinely free\n\nUp to 10 active birds, one coop, 3 hatches a year, full lineage, health records, egg logs and reminders. No card, no ads, no selling your data. Paid tiers exist for people running bigger numbers who want unlimited animals, the analytics and the genetics tools.\n\nThe ask\n\nGoogle changed the rules for new developer accounts. Before you can list an app publicly, you have to run a closed test with at least 12 people who stay opted in for 14 straight days. Not 12 downloads. 12 actual humans with Google accounts who leave it installed for two weeks. There's no way around it and no way to buy your way past it, so here I am asking strangers on the internet.\n\nIf you have an Android phone and are willing to help:\n\nEmail [support@pen-pasture.app](mailto:support@pen-pasture.app) with the Gmail address on your phone, and I'll add you to the tester list and send back the install link.\n\nWhat it actually involves: install it, leave it installed for 14 days. That's the whole requirement. If you want to poke at it and tell me what's broken, even better, and I'd genuinely rather hear that it's confusing than have you be polite about it. Looking for beta testers.","body":"Hi everyone,  \nAbout a year ago, my girlfriend was diagnosed with anemia.  \nLike most people, we tried a few nutrition and calorie tracking apps. What surprised me wasn’t that they counted calories well. It was how much time we spent logging food, and how little they actually helped us answer a simple question:  \n“What should we eat next?”  \nMost apps felt reactive. They told us what we’d already eaten, but didn’t really help us plan ahead. They counted calories and macros, but didn’t adapt much to our preferences, goals, routine, activity, or how life changes from week to week.  \nThat got me thinking:  \nWhy can’t nutrition software help people make better decisions before they need to make them?  \nMy background is in quantitative modelling, so I started looking at nutrition as a planning and optimisation problem. Instead of asking how to build a better calorie tracker, I started asking how to build a better decision-making system.  \nSo I started building Poshen.  \nPoshen isn’t the only personalised nutrition or meal-planning app, and I don’t want to pretend it is. What I’m trying to build is a different way of thinking about nutrition planning.  \nInstead of focusing on logging yesterday’s meals, Poshen starts by planning the week ahead.  \nThe process looks something like this:  \nPlan next week → recommend meals → explain why → accept, skip, or swap → learn from your choices → compare the plan with what actually happened → improve next week’s recommendations.  \nThe philosophy can be summed up in one sentence:  \nMost nutrition apps help you track yesterday. Poshen helps you plan next week.  \nThe idea is that it’s usually easier to make good food decisions before you’re hungry, busy, or standing in a supermarket wondering what to buy.  \nRather than relying on daily manual calorie logging, Poshen builds a personalised weekly nutrition plan around your goals, dietary preferences, cuisine preferences, budget, routine, recent feedback, and, if you choose to connect one, wearable data.\n\nWearable data is optional. Without one, Poshen builds an initial plan using your profile, goals, activity level, preferences, meal schedule, and feedback. Connecting a wearable simply gives it more context to refine recommendations over time.  \nThe goal isn’t to make people log more data. It’s to reduce manual tracking and make meal planning feel more adaptive, practical, and sustainable.  \nPoshen is not a medical product and doesn’t diagnose, treat, or prevent medical conditions. It isn’t a replacement for professional medical advice or care.  \nIt’s still in beta, which is why I’m posting here.  \nI’m looking for people who are happy to try it and give honest, detailed feedback. I’d especially love to know:  \n\\* Do the recommendations actually feel personalised?  \n\\* Does planning a week ahead feel more useful than tracking day by day?  \n\\* Are the recommendation explanations useful?  \n\\* Is it genuinely easier than traditional calorie tracking?  \n\\* Where do the recommendations miss the mark?  \n\\* What feels confusing, frustrating, or unnecessary?  \n\\* Would you realistically keep using it after the first week?  \nThe beta is available on iOS, Android, and web, and I’ll be inviting people gradually over the next few weeks.\n\nIf you’d like to try it, leave a comment or send me a DM and I’ll add you to the beta.  \nI’m also happy to answer questions about the product, how the recommendation system works, why I decided to build it, or anything else you’re curious about. And if you think the idea is flawed, I’d genuinely like to hear that too. Critical feedback is exactly what I’m looking for at this stage.","offTopic":false},{"id":"3e72acf6-377e-4991-ad66-81c3173662ad","excerpt":"PREP - Meal prep portioning & macros - Paid — **App Name:** PREP\n\n**What it does:** PREP is a meal prep app for people who want to portion their meals across multiple days. You set your calories and macros once, and from there you plan the week, split your food or cooked batch into portions that match your targets, and log the whole thing in one go.\n\n**Key Features:**\n\n**1. Portions:** Cook a batch, weigh it, enter the weight. Your targets are already set, so PREP works out the grams that go in each container straight away. Sides such as rice or potatoes can be added and the split rebalances around them. If the cooked weight is not exact, set a reserve and PREP holds a little back, so every portion stays accurate instead of the last one coming up short. Smart split handles two people: when two profiles eat from the same batch on different targets, it divides proportionally so both land as close to their own numbers as the food allows, rather than one eating well and the other going short. It tells you when it cannot reach both targets exactly instead of quietly rounding.\n\n**2. Plan the week:** Log a whole week at once instead of opening each day one by one. Pick the days you are prepping for, add the foods or recipes, tap log. Eat the same breakfast five days running and that is one entry instead of five.\n\n**3. Recipes, foods and tracking:** Build recipes from your own ingredients and PREP calculates calories and macros for the full dish, per 100g, and for any portion of it. Send a recipe straight into the portion tool when it is time to cook. A curated food library to search plus your own custom foods, your own categories, and a barcode scanner. Your day is grouped by meal with calories, protein, carbs and fat against your targets, and weight and measurements are drawn as a trend line over the daily readings so one heavy morning does not look like a setback.\n\n**Goal:** Launch\n\n**Giveaway:** N/A\n\n**Link:** [https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.prepapp.app](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.prepapp.app)\n\n**Some context on why it exists:** I got into meal prepping for myself and my girlfriend about half a year ago. I started with an excel spreadsheet, tabs for portioning my foods and hers, tracking, my own recipes. It got tedious maybe half a month in, so I said screw it and tried making an app instead. Everything in PREP is something I use weekly or daily myself.\n\n**Worth knowing before you try it:** PREP is built around food you cook yourself, so it works best once you have added your own foods and recipes. The food library is curated rather than enormous, there is no photo recognition, and no browsable collection of ready made recipes. It also stays deliberately narrow: no step counter, water tracker or workout log, and nothing social. No ads, no public profiles, nothing sold to anyone. An internet connection is required. Android only and English only for now.\n\n***Free for 14 days*** with no payment details needed up front, then a monthly subscription, which is really just to keep it running since I am doing this solo.\n\nHappy to answer anything. Again.\"\n\n\"I'm too busy. These plans expect me to have two free hours and a kitchen full of prepped meals.\"\n\nAnd honestly? Most fitness and diet apps out there are built like one-size-fits-all machines. They don't care that your energy crashes in your luteal phase, or that your body literally needs different things at different points in your cycle. They just yell at you to stay consistent — and then you feel like a failure when biology does what biology does.\n\nAs a woman in tech who's been through the same cycle of starting strong and falling off, I built this because I was tired of apps that didn't get it.\n\nSo I built Atunelle.\n\nIt's a cycle-based health and fitness app that works *with* your hormones, not against them. No accounts, no data tracking.","body":"Hey everyone,\n\nOla here, Norwegian guy living in Australia. 🦘\n\nA while back, my wife and I had to visit a pediatric dietitian because one of our kids was having constant, unexplained stomach issues and skin flares. The dietitian gave us the standard advice: \"Keep a strict paper food and symptom journal for the next month.\"\n\nIf you’ve ever tried to manage a chaotic child while accurately logging every snack, bowel movement, and skin flare on a piece of paper, you know it’s super annoying. You write down a few things at the start, forget some, and finding actual patterns was almost impossible.\n\nI looked at existing symptom trackers, but they all required cloud accounts, tracked data, or felt way too complicated for busy parents who wants to just log the meal as fast as possible.\n\nSo, I built **BellyMystery** (https://bellymystery.com).\n\nIt is a privacy-first, ultra-fast food intolerance and symptom tracker designed specifically to find those hidden triggers. But it also is careful in not diagnosing anything, and encourages the user to work with a dietitian or another medical professional for the best results.\n\n**How it works & why I built it this way:**\n\n* **Zero Accounts / Total Privacy:** Health data about children shouldn't live on a random startup's database. The app uses a local-first architecture. Everything stays on your device.\n* **5-Second Logging:** You can log a meal, a stool sample (using Bristol scale indicators), or a skin/mood symptom in seconds.\n* **Doctor-Ready Reports:** It synthesises the logs into a clean, structured PDF timeline you can hand directly to your GP or dietitian at your next appointment.\n* **AI Pattern Narration:** It helps highlight potential timelines between specific ingredients and later reactions without sending personal data to tracking cookies.\n\nIt’s completely free (for 2 days, to check out how it works) to use right now on iOS and Android. No subscription, lifetime unlock for the price of 2 coffees, so you can use it until you have worked out your specific food intolerance.\n\n**What I would love to get from you:**  \nI’m looking for brutal feedback on the UX. If you are a parent (or just someone managing your own food intolerances), is the logging flow intuitive? Does the \"no-account\" approach give you peace of mind, or does it make you worry about device backups?\n\nCheck it out here: [https://bellymystery.com](https://bellymystery.com)\n\nThanks for reading!","offTopic":true},{"id":"a746a549-39eb-4a64-ac8b-d4baba52dd92","excerpt":"I couldn’t find a beginner-friendly app that actually guides your calisthenics journey, so I built one. — Hey everyone! I’m the developer of LiftPal. When I first looked into calisthenics, I felt completely overwhelmed by all the terminology, progressions and the different approaches to it. There are tons of apps with random, fixed workouts, but I couldn't find a tool that actually builds a structured, easy-to-follow plan based on what a beginner needs.\n\nSo, I decided to build it myself.\n\nHere is how LiftPal is designed to help you start (and stick with) calisthenics without the confusion:\n\nPersonalized Step-by-Step Plans**:** You don't need to know how to program a workout. Just tell the app your current level, how many days a week you want to train, and what equipment you have (even if it's just a pull-up bar or the floor). It generates a complete routine tailored to you.\n\nClear Skill Progressions**:** Skills can be intimidating. LiftPal has visual \"Skill Trees.\" Instead of just telling you to do a complex move, it guides you through the absolute basics step-by-step until you unlock the next progression.\n\nYour Digital Gym Buddy and rewards**:** Consistency is the hardest part when starting out. I loved Tamagotchis growing up, so I added a digital Wombat companion to the app. As you train, your Wombat levels up and you can upgrade its room! It keeps things fun and motivating.\n\nApple Watch Integration**:** If you have an Apple Watch, you can log your sets, check rest timers, and see your Wombat right on your wrist without looking at your phone.\n\nThe core workout log (tracking sets, reps, and history) is completely free. The custom plan generator and advanced coaching features are optional Premium features.\n\nI just released the first iOS version today and would absolutely love some feedback from people who are just starting out.\n\nDoes the app make it easier for you to understand what you should be doing today? Is the setup clear for a beginner?\n\nApp Store: [https://apps.apple.com/app/id6792470106](https://apps.apple.com/app/id6792470106)\n\nThanks for reading and for any feedback!\n\nIf you like the app and want a free promo code, comment below!","offTopic":false}],"breakdown":[{"sourceKey":"reddit","sourceName":"Reddit","count":9},{"sourceKey":"hackernews","sourceName":"Hacker News","count":1}],"total":10}}
